Beasties, Guns N' Roses make rock hall of fame
The Beastie Boys and Guns N' Roses have been officially announced as inductees in the 2012 class of the institution that calls itself the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. (Insert obligatory Price Is Right sound effect.) Eighties acts that the hall had nominated but ultimately passed on include Joan Jett, the Cure and Heart.
First, let me say the Beastie Boys deserve every kind word that come their way. They were fantastic in our era and continue to crank out great stuff stoday. As for GNR ... well, I look forward to the chaos that comes when Axl Rose comes face to face with his former bandmates. The Red Hot Chili Peppers got in as well, but I consider them a '90s act.
I continue to be amazed at the musical acts that are deemed "worthy" of this honor -- and the continued stiff-arm given to bands who, in my mind anyway, are far more accomplished. Sorry, Axl, but you and your boys pale in comparison to the Wilson sisters. Artists I admire continue to tell me that inclusion in the hall means nothing to them; I am finally beginning to understand why.
