Beer and your buddies: Guy movie time
Our latest podcast episode -- Guy Movies of the 80s -- is online. Click here to listen. It's show #30, for those keeping track. And why would you? That's nerdish, even by 80s blog standards. Our special guest this week is Times pop culture diva Sharon Fink, who shocked both me and Sean by exclaiming she hated Stripes and Caddyshack. What!?!
Feel free to sound off on the most important hanging question of the podcast: Is Field of Dreams a guy movie or not? And do women cry at the end? We must know!
Weekly podcast music challenge
The Stuck in the 80s podcast features a weekly "Name That 80s Tune" contest, where we play a very short song clip. If you get the artist and song title right, you have a chance to win a zippy TBT* baseball cap. Last week's correct answer: "Kids in America" by Kim Wilde.
You might remember the song from the 1984 film "Reckless," starring Daryl Hannah (the same year "Splash" came out) and Aidan Quinn. Underrated and rarely remembered, it's worth renting. Something for those who need a break from the usual John Hughes flicks of the era. It seems to be only available on video these days, and please don't judge the movie based on the very lame video cover pictured to the right.
Come to think of it, Daryl Hannah is maybe one of the most underrated stars of the 80s: Blade Runner, Summer Lovers, Splash, Reckless, The Pope of Greenwich Village, Roxanne, Wall Street, and more. Did she lose her mojo when she and Jackson Browne called it quits? (Want the scoop on her latest project? It's Brad Renfro.)
