Between grief and nothing, Jeffrey Jones picks grief ... and lands in slammer

ferris1.jpgActor Jeffrey Jones, a.k.a. Ed Rooney in 1986's Ferris Bueller's Day Off, has worse problems than a class-skipping student. He's been charged with a single felony count of failing to update his registration as a sex offender, according to the L.A. Times.

Ironically, he did achieve this position in life by having some snot-nosed punk leave his cheese out in the wind.

The 63-year-old Jones was arrested last week. He was released on $20,000 bail. In 2003, he was ordered to register as a sex offender and undergo counseling after pleading no contest to inducing a 14-year-old boy to pose for photographs, the Times says.

I'll spare you the details of exactly what happened. Let's just say we'd all have been happier if we didn't have to write or read this news.

BTW, beyond his brilliant turn in Ferris Bueller, Jones has had a hell of a career in Hollywood. Worthy of a top 5 list, I'd say.

TOP 5 MEMORABLE JEFFREY JONES ROLES:

5. INSPECTOR LESTRADE (Without a Clue, 1988): "Ye can't go walkin' into someone's residence, pokin' about their personal possessions, disruptin' their privacy... That's for Scotland Yard."

4. DR. WALTER JENNING (Howard the Duck, 1986): "I am no longer Dr. Jenning... I have now become... someone else."

3. EMPEROR JOSEPH II
(Amadeus, 1984): "Your work is ingenious. It's quality work. And there are simply too many notes, that's all. Just cut a few and it will be perfect."

2. CHARLES DEETZ (Beetle Juice, 1988): "Nice building... bad roof... goooood parking."

1. ED ROONEY (Ferris Bueller's Day Off, 1986): Between grief and nothing... I'll take grief.
