Big Journey rumor turns out to be UK tour with Styx, Foreigner

journey-flyer.jpgJourney fans have been buzzing this week over news that the band was planning a huge announcement this morning. The obvious ideas floated around. Is Steve Perry returning? Is there another shakeup in the lineup? Maybe they're planning to play their Escape album in its entirety one tour.

Nope. None of the above. It turns out that the "big news" was a joint tour of the U.K. with Foreigner and Styx, or as one Journey fan put it: "The Non-Classic Singers Tour." Hey now, let's play nice. I'm a big fan of Journey with Arnel Pineda and Foreigner with Kelly Hansen. Close your eyes, and both frontmen mirror the voices of their predecessors. As for Styx and Lawrence Gowan ... well, Tommy Shaw still plays a mean guitar.

"We're so excited to be coming back to the UK to play arenas with our friends Foreigner and Styx. Be prepared to hear a lot of hit songs," Journey founder/guitarist Neal Schon told Classic Rock Magazine.

“This will be one of the main events of the summer," Foreigner's Mick Jones told the magazine. "Bands who represent the magic era in classic rock together for the first time in my home country."

So far, it's just a 5-gig tour starting in June 2011. Tickets go on sale Friday. Click here for more info from Classic Rock Magazine.

As for Steve Perry, he's still celebrating the World Series title achieved by his beloved San Francisco Giants. News reports showed the crowd at home games serenading the singer when Journey's song Lights played across the stadium. He's also still reportedly working on a new solo album. Not a bad life, my friend. When I know more, you'll know more.
