"Call me sometime when you have no class": Top 5 back-to-school movies
Do you still have dreams where it's the '80s (no surprise) and you're back at school (fairly typical nightmare material) but you're wearing a pair of checkered Vans ... and nothing else? (Okay, time to see a shrink.)
It's back-to-school time -- here in Florida at least -- but please, no banging your head with your Trapper Keeper. (It's an antique!)
Going back to school should be fun ... if you believe Hollywood. The first day will be marked with great frivolity. You’ll break into song with all your friends right after getting off the bus. (I still love that tune from Grease 2). Or you’ll stage a full-fledged dance number on the roof of a New York city cab.

TOP 5 BACK TO SCHOOL MOVIES OF THE '80s:5. SCHOOL DAZE (1988): Spike Lee’s vision of life at a historically black college is frightening and educational. But the soundtrack — can’t get Da’ Butt outta our heads — is truly epic.
4. FAME (1980): What happens when a group of insecure but brilliant musicians and actors converge on the New York City High School for the Performing Arts? The most entertaining lunchroom musicals ever!
3. REVENGE OF THE NERDS (1984): If Bluto saved fraternities during the '70s in Animal House, Louis and Gilbert take them down in the '80s, “cuz no one’s gonna really be free until nerd persecution ends.”
2. FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH (1982): Your locker is covered with gum and everyone’s favorite science teacher just switched to Sanka, so give him a break. If you need to find the front office, just ask Jeff Spicoli.
1. BACK TO SCHOOL (1986): Rodney Dangerfield, Robert Downey Jr., Burt Young and ole whatshisname. The guy who played the car-obsessed geek in Christine. Who cares? Only Rodney could pull off the Triple Lindy dive anyway!
