Cameron Crowe releases deleted, extended scenes from 'Say Anything'

Say AnythingCameron Crowe is giving '80s fans a treat this week. On his official website, he's releasing the actual script of extended and deleted scenes from his 1989 classic Say Anything. I'm not sure why, but there's no way I'm second-guessing this genius of a move.

Today's scene is the very beginning of the movie with John Cusack (Lloyd Dobler), Lili Taylor (Corey Flood) and Amy Brooks (D.C.) sitting around Corey's bedroom before graduation. There is only a few small differences between what Crowe wrote and what we see in the final film, but what's notable is his first description of the character Lloyd Dobler:

"LLOYD DOBLER, 19, sits slumped in a small chair. He’s tall, bulky, his nose looks slightly mashed. Hidden in there somewhere is a good-looking kid." (A lot of women would say "great-looking kid.")

Also interesting: Lloyd's punchline -- "I want to get hurt!" -- as written is actually "I want to get hurt! Will someone just let me get hurt?" Nice direction or editing to shorten that sucker.

Click here to read the full scene and bookmark his site -- so incorrectly called "The Uncool" -- for more scenes.
