thriller-album-coverjpg-10c5ff3ec31a0a05.jpgEver wonder what the music scene in the '80s would have been like WITHOUT Michael Jackson's Thriller? His 1982 album -- released in late November -- dominated the charts the following year, making it impossible for many others to crack the coveted No. 1 spot for album sales.

Think I'm exaggerating? Thriller actually ascended and descended from the top spot four times in 1983. But can you name the other five albums that had a view from the top that year?

I'll give you hint: Thriller didn't START the year as No. 1. (The answers will come later today.)

BTW, feel free to leave a comment with your picks for 1983 albums that deserved, but didn't achieve, No. 1 status that year.

Here's one such list from an '80s fan on Amazon.com:

1. Power Corruption And Lies by New Order
2. Murmur by R.E.M.
3. Speaking in Tongues by Talking Heads
4. Swordfishtrombones by Tom Waits
5. Legendary Hearts by Lou Reed
6. In Outer Space by Sparks
7. She Works Hard for the Money by Donna Summer
8. State of Confusion by The Kinks
9. Before Hollywood by The Go-Betweens
10. Punch the Clock by The Attractions
