Charlie Sheen's boozy Christmas lands him in Colorado jail
Charlie Sheen spent the better part of Christmas Day in a jail cell in Colorado after a boozy encounter with his wife.
The surprise part? It wasn't Charlie who was drunk. (Yep, that's his police mugshot to the right. He looks more nearsighted than drunk.) But let's get the background first.
Cops responding to a 911 call Friday morning arrested the 44-year-old '80s hero from Wall Street and Platoon after his wife Brooke Mueller told them he assaulted her. Sheen was booked for two felonies and one misdemeanor relating to domestic violence.
Initial reports claimed the actor was drunk. But TMZ.com, which almost always seems to have it right first these days, tells a different story.
"Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... Brooke Mueller was legally drunk when she called 911 on Charlie Sheen ... and, we've learned, Brooke has fessed up that her allegation was phony," the celeb gossip/news site reports today.
"Sources say authorities gave both Charlie and Brooke blood alcohol tests. Brooke registered a .13 while Charlie registered a .04. By the way, the 911 call came in at 8:34 AM on Christmas day."
TMZ also says Mueller "recanted her story to a female officer just before the bail hearing, telling the cop she was drunk when she made the 911 call. Nevertheless, law enforcement sources say police will still pursue the case -- at least for now."
Sheen was released in the late afternoon after posting $8,500 bond.
Sheen's publicist Stan Rosenfield warned against making assumptions and an Aspen attorney who says he's representing Sheen also declined to discuss details.
"I think at the end of the day it will be much ado about nothing," attorney Richard Cummins told The Associated Press. "I don't think there's any criminality about what went on."
