Concert wishlist: A bigger Billy Idol tour ... minus one song
Billy Idol is on the road again. In a perfect world, Stuck in the '80s would have picked this weekend (instead of last weekend) to have our big Las Vegas weekend: Idol played the Palms in Vegas on Saturday night. And guitarist Steve Stevens was there as well.
I have a love-hate relationship with Billy Idol. There are a ton of his songs I can't live without: Blue Highway, Untouchables, Eyes Without a Face, Dancing with Myself, Dead Next Door. And one that I really never want to hear again: Mony Mony.
I'm not sure how I developed my hatred for his cover of the Tommy James & The Shondells song. Maybe it was the hundreds of frat parties in college where this song played in endless rotation, with goofball sorority girls adding the obligatory, "Hey, get @#$%, get %$#%ed" ending to each line of lyrics. (Sooooo irritating.)
Or maybe because it's like I always say: Cover songs are rarely better than the original. Sorry, Billy. I know you made a small fortune with your version, and if that keeps you flush with blonde hair dye long enough to plan some Florida tour dates, then I'm happy for you.
In the meantime, here's the setlist for his recent shows. Of course, you know what he ends with...
