Cyndi Lauper relative died in Superstorm Sandy

cyndi_lauper_80.jpgCyndi Lauper is grieving the loss of her uncle, who was found dead in New York following Hurricane Sandy, says the New York Post.

The '80s popster revealed the sad news Monday when she dedicated a performance of Time After Time to George Stathis at a benefit concert in New York.

"He was old. He didn’t want to leave his house," Lauper told the audience. "I was in Chicago, and I called and said [to relatives], ‘Why did you guys leave him,’ and they just didn’t think it was going to get that bad."

Stathis was found inside his home in Queens' Rockaway neighborhood, an area hit particularly hard by the storm.
