Darkness falls across the land ... For $1.8 mil, MJ's Thriller jacket is close at hand
Sitting helplessly on the auction block, Michael Jackson's iconic leather jacket from his Thriller video looks pretty sad, doesn't it? Guess it takes the King of Pop and a landmark music video to bring it to life.
And unless you have about $1.8 million, you'll never get your hands on it to find out. The jacket was sold via an online auction on Sunday for that very price. TV Guide reports that Julien's Auctions, which oversaw the bidding, sold it to Milton Verret of Austin, Texas, who plans to display it in the city's Dell Children's Hospital.
The jacket was put up for auction by Jackson's costume designers, Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush. Jackson signed the jacket's inner lining with, "To Bush and Dennis, All My Love, Michael Jackson." The sleeve is also signed "Love Michael Jackson."
TV Guide says part of the proceeds from the sale will go to Shambala Preserve, the location of Jackson's Bengal tigers. (See cute, cuddly, fund-deprived tiger photo below.)
