On this day in the '80s: Dr. J reaches 30,000 point mark
On April 17, 1987, Julius Erving became the third player in pro-basketball history to reach the 30,000-point market, at the time an achievement reached by only Wilt Chamerlain and Kareem Abdul-Jabar. Erving's total combines the points from his ABA and NBA careers. (His baskets with the Pittsburgh Pisces were not included.)
