Do Oscar nominations in 1983 provide clues to 2013's winners

Will Lincoln win best picture? Ghandi did 30 years ago

Love the Academy Awards. Absolutely glued to the screen every year pretty much since the mid '80s to watch the Oscar spectacle. So just out curiousity, I went back in time and checked to see who and what was nominated in 1983. So if you're curious to see if someone like Daniel Day-Lewis and Lincoln can run the table in 2013, just look back 30 years ago.

  • Gandhi: Richard Attenborough
  • E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial: Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy
  • Missing: Edward Lewis, Mildred Lewis
  • Tootsie: Sydney Pollack, Dick Richards
  • The Verdict: Richard D. Zanuck, David Brown

  • Gandhi: Ben Kingsley
  • Tootsie: Dustin Hoffman
  • Missing: Jack Lemmon
  • The Verdict: Paul Newman
  • My Favorite Year: Peter O'Toole

  • Sophie's Choice: Meryl Streep
  • Victor Victoria: Julie Andrews
  • Frances: Jessica Lange
  • Missing: Sissy Spacek
  • An Officer and a Gentleman: Debra Winger

  • An Officer and a Gentleman: Louis Gossett Jr.
  • The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas: Charles Durning
  • The World According to Garp: John Lithgow
  • The Verdict: James Mason
  • Victor Victoria: Robert Preston

  • Tootsie: Jessica Lange
  • The World According to Garp: Glenn Close
  • Tootsie: Teri Garr
  • Frances: Kim Stanley
  • Victor Victoria: Lesley Ann Warren

  • Gandhi: Richard Attenborough
  • The Verdict: Sidney Lumet
  • Das Boot: Wolfgang Petersen
  • Tootsie: Sydney Pollack
  • E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial: Steven Spielberg

Wondering who won each category? It's the first person/movie listed in each cateory. If I'm Daniel or Steven Spielberg, I'd get an extra nice tux this year and jot down a few thank-you notes before the ceremony.
