Don't ever sing 'You Lost That Loving Feeling' to Kelly McGillis
Kelly McGillis -- she is a civilian so you do not salute her -- is talking about Top Gun again these days, thanks to the movie's 25th anniversary and upcoming Blu-ray release. And while she enjoyed the experience of filming it, there's one thing that aggravates her to this very day: the tune You Lost That Loving Feeling.
"It was horrifying, I couldn't go anywhere without people looking at me and singing to me," McGillis says in an interview with the Winnipeg Free Press. "It was terrible! If I never heard that song again I would be happy ... because everytime I went anyplace people would sing to me."
For those who've lived on another planet, it's the Righteous Brothers song that co-star Tom Cruise (whom she calls "the sweetest, kindest, gentlest, loving, most generous person I know") sings to her in bar along with Anthony Edwards.
Some other interview highlights:
ON THE MOVIE'S APPEAL: "I just think that it is such a timely fun theme, it's good guys versus bad guys, it's a lot of good-looking people and it's got sexy airplanes and great music. What more could a viewer want?"
ON THE FAME IT GAVE HER: "I just became so famous it was overwhelming. I never thought about that. I never aspired to be famous so that was really scary and overwhelming to me."
ON DECLINING TO WORK IN A SEQUEL: "I've gotten older and Hollywood doesn't really embrace older women. It's gotten much better but it's got a long way to go."
