Duran Duran tour sidetracked by Nick Rhodes' illness
Forget Girl Panic. Duran Duran fans and bandmembers are experiencing Nick Panic. Everyone's favorite keyboard player, Nick Rhodes, has been told by doctors that he should not perform, causing Duran Duran to cancel Saturday's show in Atlantic City and Sunday's show in Pittsburgh.
"He's just not doing well. He is sincerely disappointed but just not up to it," bassist John Taylor just announced on Facebook.
The band's official website says Rhodes "has been experiencing an array of symptoms that doctors now believe could be the result of a viral infection."
"I was hoping that after missing last night’s show, I would be feeling up to traveling and performing today, but having seen the doctor again first thing this morning, I have been told that I need to continue to rest, pending further tests tomorrow," Rhodes said on the website. "I feel completely helpless over the situation and all I can do is apologize to our fans – who I hope know that we would never let them down unless it was totally unavoidable. This is the final leg of our world tour – and I can’t tell you how disappointed I am with this outcome."
The band are looking at whether it will be possible to reschedule the show within the next few days, so ticket-holders should hold on to their tickets until further details are announced.
Duran Duran had similar problems on this tour when lead singer Simon Le Bon lost his voice entirely. So maybe it's time for the DD boys to wrap up this two-year quest and take a nice, long vacation. They've earned it.
