Epcot turns 30 years old today

Times file photo/1984

Remember when Epcot was written as EPCOT? Anyone remember what the acronym stood for?

Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow! Well done, and now wish the Orlando-area a happy birthday because Epcot/EPCOT turns 30 years old today.

First opening on Oct. 1, 1982, the original theme part was all about ole Walt's vision of the future. (How the giant golf ball fits into that vision, I'm not entirely certain). These days, Epcot is more about its annual festivals, including the current Food and Wine Festival, which thankfully always includes plenty of '80s bands for the entertainment. And why not? A theme park born in the '80s should stick to its roots.
