'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' on Blu-ray: No improvements, no additions, no dice!

Fast Times at Ridgemont High "Umm, this is not the best Blu-ray I've ever seen and I'd like my money back ... Brad."

Cameron Crowe and Amy Heckerling's 1982 classic Fast Times at Ridgemont High finally gets the Blu-ray treatment on Tuesday. And if I'm here, and you're here, doesn't that make it our time? Certainly there's nothing wrong with a little review on our time..."

Here's the skinny, Rat. If you already own the 2003 version of the DVD, there appears to be no reason to buy this new one. Unless you're obsessed with the quality of your picture and sound, much like "Ron Johnson, Audio Consultant." And you still might be disappointed.

"Even Spicoli and his dad's awesome set of tools can't fix the flaws of this 1.85:1 transfer," reports "While the Blu-ray may be an improvement over what we've seen from past DVDs (as well as the standard-def clips seen in the extras), overall it's bit of a disappointment in its visuals. Nudity aside, Fast Times has never been a good looking movie. ... The color saturation, however, gets a major upgrade. There are some nice black levels here, but the biggest improvement can be found in the pop of the colors on clothes and around the mall. It's not a horrible transfer, to be sure, but a mixed bag at best."

The real disappointment is the special features. Nothing new here. Just the same old audio commentary with Crowe and Heckerling and a "where are they now" featurette that's at least 12 years old.

I'm not sure why Hollywood is getting lazy about Blu-ray editions of '80s classics. What are they ... on dope?!? But I think it's time for producers to listen to the immortal, somewhat edited advice of Jeff Spicoli.

"What Spearsy was saying was, Hey! You know, we replaced this DVD  'cause it was bogus; so if we don't get some cool features ourselves - pronto - this Blu-ray will just be bogus too. Yea?"
