'Ferris' turns 49 years old today
Save Ferris ... from middle age. Matthew Broderick actually turns 49 years old today, but you'll pardon '80s fans for always associating him with his signature character from the John Hughes classic Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Theater fans might argue with that and say he's always Leo Bloom (from The Producers), but Gene Wilder originated that role, I'd insist. And I doubt many film fans beyond a hardcore bunch would even know the full names of Broderick's characters in other '80s classics.
In fact, let's put that to the test. Without using Google, can you name the movies each of these characters appears in?
1. Robert Shaw
2. David Lightman
3. Phillipe Gaston
4. Michael McPhee
5. Jimmy Garrett
These days, Broderick is still making movies, possibly making him the most successful (or at least most beloved) of the '80s generation of child actors. (Or at least teen actors.) In 2011, you can see him in Margaret, opposite Matt Damon, Anna Paquin and Mark Ruffalo.
