Forget Sanjaya's sister. Cherish the original
The Internet is all abuzz about the sister of American Idol's Sanjaya Malakar, the Shaun Cassidy wannabe whose vocal stylings make AC/DC's Brian Johnson sound like George Michael.
It seems Shamal Malakar was a Hooter's girl out west. Suddenly everyone in the world wanted to see a photo of the famous sister in her official outfit. (Well, here it is. Click it for a larger version.)
But as the unofficial spokesman for the 80s Nation, I prefer the original Hooter's girl -- Lynne Austin, that beauty at the top of this blog item who also may have caught your eye as Playboy's July 1986 Playmate.
According to Hooter's lore, Lynne was hired in 1983 on a bet. At a bikini contest on Clearwater Beach, one of the Hooter's owners bet his partners he could talk the contest's winner into becoming the first "Hooter's Girl." Lynne won and a few weeks later joined the restaurant's staff. In 1985, she became the cover girl of the first Hooter's calendar. Playboy Magazine found the calendar and subsequently found a new Playmate.
The moral of the story? Cute sisters are nice, but Playboy Playmates from the 80s are legends.
