Forget sweating the oldies ... sweat to the '80s at Retrofitness
Want further proof the '80s are taking over the world? Check out Retrofitness, a national chain of fitness clubs with an '80s retro theme.
In addition to the '80s-friendly decor, music from our fave decade is pumped through the facility AND ... I'm really psyched about this ... there's a "RetroTheatre" where members can work out on cardio equipment while watching '80s flicks like Sixteen Candles and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. (I recommend playing fitness-friendly fare like American Flyers.)
The company has opened 39 clubs and has plans to open an additional 80 locations, including as many as 20 around West Central Florida, including Tampa, Clearwater, Sarasota and Lakeland.
Lest you doubt the company's commitment to the '80s, Retrofitness founder Eric Casaburi bought the decade's most famous phone number -- Tommy Tutone's 867-5309 -- on eBay back in February. The number will be used for the Retrofitness franchise sales department. No word on whether "Jenny" answers the phone or not, but it'd be a nice touch.
"The phone number reinforces the fun we like to have with our unique fitness brand," said Casaburi, 35. "We go to great lengths to be a fresh face in an industry where it's hard to tell one gym from the next."
(How can you not like a CEO who wears Vans?)
