Genesis, ABBA to be inducted in Rock Hall of Fame (Sorry, Kiss)
Genesis, Jimmy Cliff and ABBA will be inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame's Class of 2010, Rolling Stone announced Tuesday morning.
That means Kiss, Red Hot Chili Peppers, LL Cool J and Donna Summer -- all nominated this year -- will have to remain seated for now. Whoa. Major league uncool. It was the first nomination for Kiss, despite being eligible for the last decade. (The Hollies and Stooges were two non-80s that also will be inducted March 15 in New York.)
Does this mean we'll finally get the see the much-rumored Peter Gabriel reunion with his old Genesis mates during the induction performance?
"Peter is a bit elusive, but I'll probably talk to him soon and see if he has any concept of what he wants to do," Genesis keyboardist Tony Banks told Rolling Stone. "I don't feel a great need to play. I'm happy just to drink."
Don't expect to see Phil Collins on drums either. A recently announced medical condition with his back makes it nearly impossible for him to play the instrument anymore.
"I don't think he'd be itching to play early 1970s Genesis music at the moment [anyway]," Banks said.
The induction news surprised ABBA, which broke up just as the '80s began. "I didn't think this would happen, because we were a pop band, not a rock band," Benny Andersson told the magazine.
