Ghostbusters, Gremlins double feature for free at Beach Theatre

GremlinsTrying to stretch a nickel and can't stomach spending a boat-load of moola for Halloween entertainment? As usual, Stuck in the '80s has the solution.

Check out free shows of Ghostbusters and Gremlins this weekend at the Beach Theatre (in St. Pete Beach. Sorry fans outside Tampa Bay.) The two '80s flicks -- they're not really horror flicks, right? -- are part of an spooky-themed weekend of movies. (Other flicks include: House on Haunted Hill and Night of the Living Dead.)

The two '80s flicks -- part of the theater's ongoing "kids' show" program -- are free. Here are the showtimes:

GHOSTBUSTERS: Saturday (10/24) at 2:30 p.m., Sunday (10/25) at 1:45 p.m.
Underrated line: "If someone asks if you are a god, you say, 'yes'!"
Maybe you forgot: The role of Louis Tully (Rick Moranis) was originally intended for John Candy. The role of Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) was written for John Belushi. On set, Dan Aykroyd referred to "Slimer" as the ghost of Belushi.

GREMLINS: Saturday (10/24) at noon, Sunday (10/25) at 3:45 p.m.
Underrated line: "They're watching Snow White. ... And they love it."
Maybe you forgot: According to, at least one of Phoebe Cates's screams is genuine. An enormous cockroach crawled out in front of her during one take.
