The Go-Go's calling it quits after summer tour

Their lips are sealed ... for good. The Go-Go's announced this week that their July tour, which happily includes a stop in Tampa Bay, will be their last.

The "Happily Ever After - Farewell Tour" begins July 7 in San Diego, stops in St. Petersburg on July 10 and wraps up in Austin, Texas, on July 27. A live TV performance on Good Morning America is set for July 16.

The band's official website doesn't really give a reason for the breakup, other than it appears 30-plus years together is enough. Lead singer Belinda Carlisle reportedly hinted at the breakup on her Facebook page back in February. Her official website says she's be doing a solo tour this summer in Europe, Japan and the United States.

Back in 2008, band co-founder Jane Wiedlin told Stuck in the '80s that the days of long tours were over. "In the early '80s we once toured for nearly two years straight, and now we never do more than about two weeks," she told me. "Every year it seems to get a little more complicated trying to get together to do stuff. We are now living in FIVE different places, which makes it a real challenge to get together."

Still, I'm crushed at hearing this news. At least I'll get one last chance to see them in person (on my birthday of all days). And here's the video that began my 30-year love affair with the ladies.
