God's speed: Sally Ride dies at age 61




Sally Ride, the first American woman in space, died Monday at age 61 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Her company's official website -- Sally Ride Science -- announced the news.

Ride became the first American woman in space on when Challenger blasted off from Kennedy Space Center on June 18, 1983.

"The thing that I'll remember most about the flight is that it was fun," Ride said afterward. "In fact, I'm sure it was the most fun I'll ever have in my life."
