Goodbye, Col. Potter: Harry Morgan dies at 96



harry_morgan.jpgHarry Morgan, best known to '80s fans for playing Col. Sherman T. Potter on TV's M*A*S*H, has died at age 96. He had been recently battling pneumonia, according to the New York Times.

During our decade, Morgan also appeared in After M*A*S*H, a boatload of Love Boat episodes, as well as appearances on Murder She Wrote, Blacke's Magic and You Can't Take It With You. He also appeared as Capt. Bill Gannon in 1987's Dragnet opposite Tom Hanks and Dan Aykroyd, advancing Morgan's role from the '60s TV series.

In an interview at the Archive of American Television, Morgan said of his M*A*S*H character: ""He was firm. He was a good officer and he had a good sense of humor. I think it's the best part I ever had. I loved playing Colonel Potter."
