Hey, it's Elisabeth ... Shue!
Elisabeth Shue is alive and well, but living in Tucson. At least she was when we just saw her last night on DVD in Hamlet 2, an incredibly underrated and sadly underwatched movie from 2008.
In the funniest cameo since Kurt Vonnegut played himself in Back to School, Shue also plays herself in the indy flick. But in Hamlet 2, she has quit acting and has become a nurse in Arizona, where she is discovered by the uber-fan, drama teacher played by the great Steve Coogan (who drops references to all her great '80s flicks, to the total ambivalence of his students).
Shue's best line: The only thing she misses about Hollywood is "making out with really cute guys." And the worst part of nursing is she "can't make out with really cute patients."
Coogan obviously has a soft spot for the '80s, having played the late Tony Wilson in 24 Hour Party People, the incredible story of how a TV personality-turned-record promoter and club owner introduced the Manchester music scene to the world. It's absolutely a must-rent movie for all '80s fans who loved the early '80s British invasion.
