Horshack from 'Welcome Back, Kotter' dies at 63
"Ooh ooh ooh, Mr. Kotter! We got some bad news for you." Ron Palillo, who played Horshack on TV's Welcome Back, Kotter, died Tuesday morning at his home near Palm Beach in Florida, TMZ reports. He was 63.
The cause of death appears to be a heart attack, the gossip site reports. TMZ also says the actor was a heavy smoker who recently was battling a bad cough and had a doctor's appointment scheduled for today.
Palillo is the second Kotter co-star to die in 2012; Robert Hegyes, who played Epstein (and presumably "Epstein's mother" if you followed the show closely), died Jan. 26 after suffering a heart attack.
In 2009, Palillo was in the news when he became an acting teacher in Florida. At the time, he lived in Palm Beach Gardens, where he taught at the G-Star School of the Arts for Motion Pictures and Broadcasting, an 860-student charter high school in Palm Beach County.
"You don't see any Sweathogs in my class," Palillo told USA Today, though his kids are starting to find Kotter clips on YouTube and reciting the classic lines. "They haven't done this yet, but I'm waiting for the 'Ooh ooh ooooooh!"'
