How to talk talk talk with the Psychedelic Furs

I have a weird, mystical attachment to the Psychedelic Furs. It's a love affair that began only a couple years, since I saw them perform live in Tampa. Since then, if I'm ever in a rotten mood, I turn on iTunes and crank the Furs. Instant salvation.

The challenging side effect with such affairs is that when it comes time to talk to or meet your heroes in person, the anxiety is brutal. (I still am haunted by hanging out with Dennis DeYoung backstage once, totally unable to conceive of any question beyond his performance of Castle Walls and the omission of Desert Moon that night.) So when I sat down to interview Furs bassist/co-founder Tim Butler, well, hey ... that's why I write down my questions word-for-word ahead of time. Tim sweats coolness. I just sweat actual sweat. And you can hear it at times. But that's just the fun part of being stuck in the '80s. (Click here to listen to the full interview/podcast).

If you're able to catch the Psychedelic Furs on their 30th anniversary Talk Talk Talk show (they play Clearwater's historic Capitol Theatre on Saturday, July 2), here's the expected setlist:

  • Dumb Waiters
  • Pretty In Pink
  • I Wanna Sleep With You
  • No Tears
  • Mr. Jones
  • Into You Like A Train
  • It Goes On
  • So Run Down
  • All Of This And Nothing
  • She Is Mine

  • Sister Europe
  • Love My Way
  • Heartbeat
  • President Gas
  • Highwire Days
  • Heaven
  • Heartbreak Beat

  • In My Head
