It's official: Police coming to Tampa

Sting pop music critic Sean Daly scooped Stuck in the 80s today with the big news: The Police are coming to Tampa on July 11.

(In my defense, Sean's not nearly as busy as I am. He usually spends his entire day on Thursday alternating between downloading Taylor Hicks tunes and ordering gift baskets of summer sausage from the Hickory Farms website.)

The reunited Brits will play the St. Pete Times Forum. Tickets go on sale March 10.

Does this mean we could snag one of the legendary bandmates for a possible podcast interview? Daly summed up our chances this way: "We'd be lucky to get Andy Summers' grandmother on the phone."

Then again, seeing how our last musician interview  -- Huey Lewis in early February -- nearly turned into a referendum on Daly's job, I can see why he's gun-shy.

By the way, I'm not the only one out here in the blogosphere who was less than impressed with the band's recent performance on the Grammy's. Consider this review from the San Francisco Chronicle:

"It was, eh, kinda boring. ... The once-blonde trio played its hit, 'Roxanne.' In a word, it was 'jazzy.' Sting missed all the high notes, which is pretty much missing the point of the entire song. ... Oh, and it was kind of weird that Sting didn't break out in a lute solo while having Tantric sex with a tree from the Amazon jungle."
