J. Geils Band's 'Concealed Weapons' still a sure thing
Many of us have found memories of Centerfold and the other hits off the Freeze Frame album and those songs still hold up strong. It was in 1983 that Peter Wolf went solo and the J. Geils Band moved keyboardist Seth Justman over to lead vocals. Their first single in the post-Wolf era was Concealed Weapons and it peaked at No. 63 on the charts in 1984.
In 1985, Concealed Weapons can be heard for a few seconds in the movie The Sure Thing. More than 20 years later, in a move that can only be considered genius, SIT80’s secret weapon, David Peterhofsky, included snippets of Concealed Weapons in my favorite SIT80’s podcast intro breathing new life into this under appreciated song.
The video is bawdy fun and one can never get enough of Magic Dick on the harmonica. Like many bands, the J. Geils Band is performing, but disputing what members actually comprise the official band is another question for the public and the courts to decide.
