Jackie Earle Haley is the new Freddy Krueger?!?
Let me get this straight: "Kelly" from Bad News Bears is the star of the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street? "Moocher" from Breaking Away is Freddy Frickin' Krueger? Yep, Jackie Earle Haley is officially the face of '80s horror.
Eh, I'm good with it.
What's not to love about our favorite movie star from the late '70s taking on an iconic role? First, he's a better actor than the original Freddy -- Robert Englund -- ever was. Second, finicky '80s horror fans have to love the fact that Haley already looks a little creepy. Cutting-edge technology and makeup skills will NOT be totally necessary.
The new movie, due out in 2010, will feature a Freddy with a face even more disfigured than the original one in 1984, says the New York Daily News, along with a backplot that aims to make the villain a little more sympathetic. (What? Was he left behind a grade or two by the Detroit public school system?)
A couple up-and-coming actors will join Haley in the cast. Kellan Lutz (Twilight) and Katie Cassidy (the new Melrose Place) also are on board. I guess it was hoping too much to bring back Johnny Depp too?
