Jem and the Holograms return to TV this weekend

jem_and_the_holograms.jpgRemember when Grrrl Power was just a cartoon phenomenon? (Except for those crazy Brady Bunch eppies where somehow the girls would defeat the boys in some alternate-universe physical activity. As if!) Yeah, it was the '80s and the cartoon that led the charge was Jem and the Holograms.

Jem and the Holograms ran from 1985 to 1988, the creation of Hasbro, Marvel Productions and Sunbow Productions -- yeah, the masterminds of G.I. Joe and Transformers.

This weekend, "Jerrica Benton" (aka Jem) and friends return to TV as the first six episodes of season one will be on The Hub network beginning Saturday, May 28 at 2 p.m. (Eastern time). The show will then join The Hub's regular schedule weekdays beginning Tuesday, May 31, at 7 p.m. with encore performances throughout each day and on Saturdays at 10 a.m.

What's The Hub network, you may be asking? It's what used to be called Discovery Kids. Find out more at their official website.

Can you believe I could actually find enough quotes for a top 5 list?

5. Your father hoped you'd be strong. ... But I suppose tough is good enough.

4. Wow. Even at five in the morning she looks amazing.

3. "You let Pizzazz loose... WITH A LASER?"

... (Okay, so I only found three. Watch the show and discover some new ... Jems. Wow. Can't believe I wrote that.)
