Labor Day = Communism tribute = Great '80s movies!

RedsMovie.jpgHas anyone else out there realized that Labor Day is the ultimate '80s holiday? Because at its heart, it's really about socialism or communism ... or some evil "ism." Think about it. The federal holiday was proposed to celebrate "the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations."

Somewhere out there, Glenn Beck woke up with a headache today. And I'm going to squeeze into the Soviet Union soccer jersey that my favorite Ukrainian fan sent me a few years ago just to make the headache worse.

The thing is, communism (if you're against it) or socialism (if you're for it) is what made the '80s go round. The music, the movies, the politics, the economies. If you want to get the world back in synch with itself, we need more socialism! Granted, some great communism movies came out in other decades (Doctor Zhivago, Fiddler on the Roof), but if you want to celebrate Labor Day properly today, don't do it with a Star Wars marathon. Do it with '80s movies!

TOP 5 COMMUNISM/SOCIALISM MOVIES OF THE '80s:

5. THE KILLING FIELDS (1984): Sam Waterston, John Malkovich. "We must be like the ox, and have no thought, except for the Party."

4. ROCKY 4 (1985): Sylvester Stallone, Carl Weathers. "I guess what I'm trying to say is, if I can change, and you can change, everybody can change."

3. RED DAWN (1984): Patrick Swayze, Lea Thompson. "Dogface! I show you how Soviet dies!"

2. WHITE NIGHTS (1985): Mikhail Baryshnikov, Gregory Hines."What you call yourself is of no concern to us. Here, you're just a criminal."

1. REDS (1981): Warren Beatty, Diane Keaton. "I think voting is the opium of the masses in this country. Every four years you deaden the pain."
