Lea Thompson sings, Rick Springfield sails and Midnight Oil's Peter Garrett stung by scandal

Lea thompson ... Lea Thompson liked to sing "Mr. Sandman" to get herself in the retro-mood before filming scenes in Back to the Future.

... Wanna hang with Rick Springfield? His annual cruise on the Carnival Destiny leaves Miami on Nov. 15.

... Ron Howard turns 56 today. True or false: Ron's acting career was over by the time the '80s started ... False. Happy Days didn't end until 1984. And Ron even appears uncredited in Night Shift as the annoying saxophone player on the subway.

... A remastered version of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's debut album Welcome to the Pleasuredome has been released. The disc includes a never-released song, Watusi Loves Juicy.

... Bad news for Midnight Oil's Peter Garrett. He has been demoted by the Australian prime minister over a home insulation scandal. Meanwhile, former bandmates Rob Hirst, Jim Moginie and Martin Rotsey have joined ex-Violent Femmes bassist Brian Ritchie to form The Break, a surf-rock act. Look for their debut album sometime this spring.

TODAY'S READER BLAST is from ... Vitor Silva: "Hey Steve! No, you are not the only one who still laughs at Weekend at Bernie's... One of the funniest movies of all time! You left out some great quotes! For example:

  • "This sucks, I am so unhappy!"
  • "This is good for me!"
  • "Get the hell out of here, it's too hot!"
  • "And you didn't want to come!"

Love the blog, keep it up, man!"
