Long live the Goblin king

We're guessing David Bowie probably doesn't want to be remembered for his role as Jareth the Goblin King in the 1986 film Labyrinth. (Usually costarring with muppets is a career-ending mistake. Just ask Howie Mandel.) But if you're searching for an obscure Bowie movie, you could do worse. It co-stars future Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly as a teenager who gives her baby step-brother away to the goblin king. When she changes her mind and wants him back.... oh, who are we kidding, you don't care about the plot.

Personally, I like to have fun with the clerks at Blockbuster Video by confusing this movie with the other lame 80s fantasy flicks, including that Tom Cruise bomb Legend. "Oh yeah, I want to rent that movie about unicorns and pirate ships with Bowie and that guy from Risky Business, what's it called? Goonies? Gremlins! Right?"

Ahh, we mock Bowie but we 80s freaks love him. And we wish him a happy 59th birthday today. Did you know he shares the same birthday as Elvis Presley? Not that there's anything wrong with that. But we'd rather watch Labyrinth a dozen times back to back than sit through any Elvis flick even once.

Bowie may be old-school, but we think he reached his zenith in the 80s. Even his best acting gig -- Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence -- was 1983. And so we give you...
