The 'Love Boat' sets sail ... for the scrap heap
The Pacific Princess, bold and romantic vessel of TV's Love Boat from 1977 to 1986, will soon be making another run. A last run. To the scrap heap. Somebody call Capt. Stubing. This simply won't stand.
USA Today, citing an Italian news report, says the 40-year-old ship has been sold for $3.3 million after rusting away at a dock in Genoa, Italy, for the last couple years. Able to host just 600 passengers (tiny by today's standards where ships hold up to 4,000 passengers), the Pacific Princess sailed under the Princess Cruise Line from 1975 to 2002.
Its new own, a Turkish demolition company, bought it for scrap metal. A sad end but a great reminder of the golden age of '80s television.
