The 'Lovergirl' of the '80s, Teena Marie dies at 54
The voice once known as Lady T and the Ivory Queen of Soul, Teena Marie, was found dead in her California home on Sunday. She was 54.
Best known for her '80s hits Lovergirl and I Need Your Lovin', she was a protege (and lover) of the late great Rick James, who met her shortly after she was signed by Motown Records following her high school graduation.
"He just wanted people to hear the music first," she later said of James, "and then it wouldn't matter to people what color I was."
The cause of death is believed to be because of a seizure. Click here to read the full story.
