Matthew Broderick says he's "perfectly happy" with a 'Ferris Bueller' sequel or remake

Matthew Broderick
says he's fine with moving forward with Ferris Bueller 2 or even a remake of the original, according to an interview this month in Cinematical.

"It would be fine. I would be perfectly happy for somebody to do that," Broderick said. But count him out as appearing in it. "I probably wouldn't enjoy that. I would rather leave what we did as our thing," he said.

It's no big secret that there's a script making its rounds through Hollywood for a sequel to Ferris Bueller's Day Off. In fact, I have a copy of it sitting right on my desk. It's called Another Day Off: Ferris Bueller 2, and it follows the original Ferris character as he skips out of work on his 40th birthday. It was written by Rick Rapier, who sent me a copy a couple years ago and has been fighting to get it made ever since.

The trouble has been that John Hughes pretty much reserved the right to stop any movie project based on characters he created. But since his death in August 2009, it's unclear if doors will open now.

Rapier's script is fantastic -- I devoured it in a single afternoon -- and deserves a shot. I hope Broderick gets a chance to read it. I think if he did, he'd be on-board with reprising his role.
