Modern English re-records hit single, plans Florida tour (with Tampa Bay date)

Modern English/publicity shot

On the scale of fully bizarre and unexpected news, this item ranks as a full tilt: Modern English has reformed to re-record their 1982 hit single I Melt With You. But wait, there's more.

They're releasing the new single for FREE. And, they've announces date for a short U.S. tour that's almost entirely in FLORIDA. And, of course, that includes a date on Sept. 25 at The Venue in Clearwater. (The Venue doesn't have the date yet on their official website, but we're taking the sterling word of the Slicing Up Eyeballs website.)

Modern English will feature its original '80s lineup for this tour. "Yes, it's true!" the band says on its official website. "The original 80's lineup for the current 2011 Tour will include original members Robbie Grey (main vocals), Gary McDowell (guitars, vocals), Mick Conroy (bass guitars, vocals), Stephen Walker (keyboards), long time collaborator Steven Walker (guitars), yes there are two, and Ric Chandler on drums! You will definitely not want to miss this tour!"

The new version of the band's hit, which climbed the charts after its heavy play on MTV and use in the movie Valley Girl, is for a new movie soundtrack. The movie? I Melt With You, of course. It's slated for release in the late fall.
