MTV's first day: What a waste of time
Anyone else out there disappointed by the rebroadcast of the first day of MTV (running today on VH1 Classic)? For those of you taping it at home, I don't want to burst your bubble, but it's not nearly as entertaining as it should be.
First of all, VH1 Classic isn't rebroadcasting all the original commercials and VJ spots (featuring Mark Goodman). There are clips of Goodman -- VERY short clips ... so short you wonder if they're being charged Super Bowl dollars for the airing rights or something. But for commercial breaks -- and there are PLENTY of those -- it's the same aggravating lineup of Old Navy and Mabelline ads that make you want to cram a sharpened pencil in your ear.
Also, and this is a predictable complaint, but ... everyone knows how much I love REO Speedwagon. But I've now seen four of their videos on Day One. Four. And I think I only turned the TV on four times today. Someone figure out the odds on that phenomenon.
Plus, and I'm not sure this is some sort of weird mixup, but the first 10 videos they showed don't match up with lineup you'll find elsewhere on the web.
For those who care, here are the first 10 videos according to VH1 Classic:
1. Video Killed The Radio Star - The Buggles
2. You Better Run - Pat Benatar
3. She Won't Dance - Rod Stewart
4. Little Susie's On The Up - Ph.D
5. Brass in Pocket - Pretenders
6. Time Heals - Todd Rundgren
7. Take It On The Run - REO Speedwagon
8. Rockin' The Paradise - Styx
9. Not identified
10. History Never Repeats, Split Enz
Sorry, Split Enz. It seems it does.
