New album? Da-do-do-don't!
The reunited and entirely too smug Police are dropping hints that they'd like to go back into the studio and record a brand new album.
"I would see it as a challenge, to make an absolutely brilliant pop album at this stage of our career," says Andy Summers told the media during a book signing in Dublin. [Reported on Pollstar.com.]
A challenge to make a brilliant pop album? In a world where tens of thousands of people download Britney Spears' newest single, that's no challenge at all. You want a real challenge, Andy? Try making an absolutely brilliant rock album.
Or I'll give you a bigger challenge: Don't make an album at all. I'd rather leave the band's legacy intact. Ending with "Synchronicity" seems appropriate. Let Sting go back to playing the lyre. Send Stewart Copeland back to scoring soundtracks. And you can go back to taking pretty photos and signing books.
