New 'Rock of Ages' trailer is out ... and it's iffy
First, a confession: I loved Rock of Ages, the '80s musical, on stage. Spearsy event wept a little, especially at the end when they play Journey's Don't Stop Believin' and the narrator hits us in the face with his summation: "On the strip, sometimes the dreams you come in with ... ain't the same dreams you leave with. But hey, they still rock." (Pass the tissues!)
But I've always maintained a healthy amount of skepticism about the big-screen remake that's coming our way this summer.
Sure, it helps that it's packed with stars -- Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Julianne Hough, Bryan Cranston, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti. But I can count on one finger the big-stage adaptations that surpassed their stage counterparts (umm, Grease anyone?). So I'm torn on my prediction here. Hopefully it will fall somewhere higher than Village People's Can't Stop The Music or Grease 2.
In any case, here's the latest trailer for Rock of Ages, set for a June 15 release. My favorite line? From Alec Baldwin: "I just vomited ... in my pants."
