Next big-screen remake: 'Baywatch ... the Movie!"
Baywatch has a precarious spot in '80s pop culture lore. I pretty much blame the skin-and-surf silliness for killing off whatever tenderness the decade had left. So it is with a firm sense of indifference that I announce this news: Baywatch is about to become the latest '80s remake to reach the big screen.
(Somewhere, the Hoff is smiling. Because he's gotta score at least a cameo, right? Payday!)
A pair of screenwriters have been brought it to rewrite an existing script for a Baywatch adaptation, the Hollywood Reporter says. Who are they? Not very important. But if you're still reading, the movie is planned for a summer 2011 release.
According to insiders, fans should expect something along the lines of the Charlie’s Angels reboot, with a focus firmly on female action.
The original TV show lasted from 1989 to 1999 (and then an additional two years as Baywatch Hawaii). According to reports, it was the most watched TV show in the world. One more reason there's never going to be a Stuck in the '90s blog outta me.
