No need to miss him at all: John Waite tour includes June 3 stop at Clearwater's Capitol Theatre
John Waite is easily one of the most compelling musicians and songwriters of the late '70s and '80s. From his career with The Babys, to his incredible solo career (with uber-anthem Missing You) and finally in the late '80s, his stint with supergroup Bad English, Waite has a catalog of tunes so amazing that you'll kick yourself for ever forgetting a single song.
Well, lucky you, because John Waite has announced a summer tour that includes a June 3 stop at Clearwater's historic Capitol Theatre. (Click here for other tour dates closer to you.) I'll never forget John for helping me over pre-show jitters a few years ago when I introduced him on stage at Ruth Eckerd Hall. He got me to forget about the crowd by pointing out that that every Bob Dylan song sounded like the theme to Beverly Hillbillies. And he played a few to prove it. By the time I took the stage, I had a new best friend.
If you need more compelling reasons to buy a ticket, go back and listen to our Stuck in the '80s podcast with John, who laughs mischievously when we ask him to record a bumper for us just 10 seconds after he told us he prefers the '70s to the '80s. Well, we can't all be perfect. But John Waite comes about as close as it gets.
He may not play my all-time favorite John Waite tune in Clearwater, but it won't be because I won't try screaming the title at the top of my lungs. Here it is.
Tickets for the Capitol Theatre show go on sale Friday, April 1. Reserved tickets are $35. A limited number of VIP tickets are priced at $49, which includes a premium seat and a meet and greet will also be available.
