The only guy who'd say no to Journey

Badenglish John Waite has a fantastic voice. He worked with Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain during his Babys years. He worked with Cain and Journey guitarist Neal Schon during the short life of Bad English in the late 80s (photo left). Also, Waite was an opening act for Journey on some of their recent tours.

And since early June, after parting ways with Jeff Scott Soto, Journey has been without a lead singer.

So during our recent interview with Waite, we asked him the natural question: If Journey called and asked you to step in as lead singer, would you do it?
Here's exactly how he responded.

"I couldn't do it. I sing in a whole different style. I don't know. Bad English was fun because we wrote those songs, and we just stuck to those songs. But I couldn't get up there and sing somebody else's songs. I don't think I'm capable of doing that."

"The older you get, the drama of life seems more in your face. And there are things I want to get to and put across to people that I can only do with a band that's more root-oriented. I'm English, and Journey is very, very American sound."

"There's chocolate and there's vanilla and I truly wish everyone the best. My path is in a different direction completely."
