'Pee-wee's Big Adventure' is top cycling movie?!?
Pee-wee's Big Adventure is the top cycling movie of ALL TIME, says Bicycling magazine. Whoa. Not even Large Marge saw that coming.
Bicycling is probably a very prestigious cycling magazine. I wouldn't know. I stopped riding a bike the day I graduated from college. But they're going to take a hit for this pick. Sure, it's a movie ABOUT a bike, but there's maybe five minutes of actual cycling in Pee-wee's Big Adventure. There are so many better picks out there.
For my money, I'd pick the brilliant Breaking Away, which barely missed the '80s with its 1979 premiere, followed by 1985's American Flyers, starring Kevin Costner and David Marshall Grant. I'm not going to lie to you: American Flyers suffers from some seriously bad dialog at times, but the cycling scenes are epic enough to get me back in the saddle again.
In the meantime...
