Podcast: Greg Kihn is anything but a 'lousy rock star'
It's taken us nearly six years of Stuck in the '80 podcasts to finally interview someone who met all our expectations of being a "rock star" in our beloved '80s. It turns out we just needed to talk to Greg Kihn.
"Guys, I'm a lousy rock star," Kihn says in our latest show. "You put me in the back of a limo and I'm uncomfortable."
Kihn was indeed a rock star -- anything but a lousy one -- in the '80s when his Greg Kihn Band was cranking out hits like Jeopardy and The Break-Up Song (a tune that he recorded without finishing the lyrics, he confesses). But after listening to his new digital anthology -- Kihnplete -- I discovered a couple new favorites: The west-coast rockabilly-fused tune Love and Rock and Roll and the just plain fun Another Girl Another Planet. (Both are featured in the podcast.)
I wasn't exaggerating to Greg during our interview when I said I listen to each tune every day -- hell, at least once a day, sometimes on constant repeat on the drive to and from work. Nothing puts me in a better mood. And nothing will cheer you up like listening to Greg talk about his amazing career. It's all love and rock and roll.
