The power of the Glave (Or why can't I get 'Krull' out of my head?)

Krull-glave
The 1983 B-movie Krull is taunting me today, and I have no idea why. It's not a particularly great sci-fi flick of the '80s, but I'll watch it anytime it's on TV.

Personally, I think it's the music score by the great James Horner. Or maybe because it has one of the earliest film appearances by Liam Neeson, who didn't star in it, but instead played one of the roadside robbers who would eventually die inside the Black Fortress. (Did you know Neeson actually made more than a dozen film appearances in the '80s? His first was Excalibur in 1981.)

Rumor has it that World of Warcraft pays tribute to Krull by adding the Glave, the ancient weapon of kings, to their game, having it "float in a lava pool inside Onyxia's Lair," whatever the hell that means.

I'm not going to be a WoW addict just to find out. In the meantime, a suitable top 5 list for Thursday...

TOP 5 PIECES OF WISDOM FROM KRULL:

5. "Fame? It's an empty purse. Count it, go broke. Eat it, go hungry. Seek it, go mad!"

4. "There are kingly virtues other than bravery. Courtesy is one of them."

3. "Good fighters make bad husbands."

2. "Power is fleeting; love is eternal."

1. "Each to his fate."
