'Red Dawn' remake has one big '80s connection: Tom Cruise's son

Connor-cruise Tom Cruise's son, Connor Cruise, has been cast in the upcoming remake of Red Dawn. Cruise will play the role of "Daryl," originally played by Darren Dalton in the 1984 movie.

A little karma and a sprinkling of '80s cosmic powder could go a long way in Hollywood, so bravo to whomever thought to cast the 14-year-old actor in the movie -- even if dad didn't appear in the original.

It won't be Connor's first movie; the adopted son of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman appeared in Seven Pounds last year.

Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas and Edwin Hodge also have been announced for the remake's cast. according to the Hollywood Reporter. The movie has a projected release date of Sept. 24, 2010 and is scheduled to begin production next month in Detroit. (Good thinking, Hollywood! A city that already looks like it's the site of a prolonged Cold War battle.)
