Remembering John Lennon 31 years after his death
I remember couple-skating to John Lennon's Woman in the weeks after his death on Dec. 8, 1980, thinking, "Are they crazy?" Seriously. How about we dim the lights, take a load off the rink for a few minutes and just celebrate the man and the musician? But I guess I wasn't as smart as those running Super Skate in Clearwater back in the old days. "Let's make the little punks pick partners and skate instead." I'm not sure what Lennon might have thought of the spectacle of children skating to his music, holding hands with each other and thinking of true love. But now that I think about it a little more, it might have made him smile. And that's good enough for me.
